Saline-Brecon Friendship Guild, Ltd.
P.O. Box 182, Saline Michigan 48176
The Bowley Friendship Bridge, named in honor
of former Brecon, Wales Mayor, Arthur T. Bowley, M.B.E., was recently rebuilt
following flood damage to the old wooden bridge. In a special ceremony at
Saline's Millpond Park on April 28, 2012, the new steel bridge was rededicated
to the achievements of Mayor Bowley in forging the long sister city relationship
between Saline and Brecon. As in the
original dedication in 1996, the event was marked by the mixing of water
from Brecon and water from Saline as it was poured into the flowing Saline River
below. Three beautiful Welsh-costumed ladies (Sheila Blough, Sandy Wingate and
Elizabeth Colson) joined Judge Donald Shelton, Mayor Gretchen Driskell, and
Saline Public Works Director Jeff Fordice for the ceremony.

At its annual Brecon Night (formerly Pub
Night) celebration, the Saline Brecon Friendship Guild again auctioned its travelling
symbol, the SBFG "Chain of Honor". The 2012 winning
bidders, David and Sheila Blough, now have the right to possess the chain for good
luck for the next year.

The Saline-Brecon Friendship Guild Ltd. was established in April
of 1989, with two primary goals. First, to promote our sister city relationship
to as large a base in the greater Saline community as possible. Second, to
provide a focus for the necessary fund-raising activities which will provide the
financial resources necessary for continuing and expanding our 25-year
association and friendship with Brecon, Wales. By the end of 1989 the Guild had
established itself formally with the adoption of a constitution and by-laws,
election of officers and an official logo. In May of 1990, official tax-exempt
status was granted by the federal and state governments. Meanwhile, the Guild
had provided ambitious and sucessful fund-raising programs for the 25th and 30th
anniversary celebrations in Saline with our guests from Brecon. These have
included the highly successful "pub nights", sales of insginia items,
and raffles. Additionally, the "Y Ddraig Goch" Society was formed for
those friends of Brecon who wish to contribute in a more direct way. Most
importantly, our mailing list now includes nearly 500 interested Salinians, a
number which continues to grow almost daily. It is through the
"Saline-Brecon Friendship Guild" that perpetuation of the wonderful
bonds of friendship and affection will be assured.
Each year, the Saline-Brecon Friendship Guild presents "Pub
Night" - an evening of music, food, fun and fundraising to support the Guild's
activities. Pub Night is the Friday nearest March 1st, which is St. David's Day. St. David
is the patron Saint of Wales. Click below for scenes and information from past Pub Nights:
